This pouring shield is awful (it came with the mixer). This is a nightmare to use. The innovative shape creates a chute that channels ingredients directly into the bowl and minimizes splatter.
It can be stretched to fit but then the slightest touch dislodges it into the bowl. Keep that in mind lest you accidentally knock it off while using it! A necessity in my opinion.

I have attached a photo that shows that the shield is about 1/4 inch too small in diameter. This pouring shield is awful (it came with the mixer). The shield is very loose on the bowl and barely stays in place when the mixer is turned off, when you are mixing anything you need to hold onto the shield to stop it getting sucked into the bowl and smashed by the dough hook or beater.
I own 3 kitchen aid mixers and personally find the pouring shields to be an asset. Kitchenaid mixers and other accessories are sold separately. Follow the shield instructions and the machine instructions and it works pefectly.

I saw an earlier review about it falling all over the place when the mixer was in motion, but i did not have any trouble with it. The kitchenaid pouring shield is made of a somewhat light plastic, so it wouldn't take being dropped or stressed in handling. I own a kitchen aid artisan mini and it doesn't fit on the bowl, slides around, and the flour gets stuck to the pour spout.
